Yoast just released Sociable 3.3, a plugin to WordPress which automatically adds buttons to social networking sites to your posts.

The new version now supports awe.sm URL shortener, which has the ability to use your own domainname. Very cool.

Replaced the harddisk of my MacBook this morning

Hi,

since I bought my MacBook Alu last october, I knew I wanted to replace the harddisk with something faster and bigger.

In January, I searched for a replacement and found the 500 GB Seagate Momentus 7200.4 (ST9500420AS), which I bought at one of the webshops here in the Netherlands. Unfortunattely, 2 months later, I still had not received it. Backorder, they told me. So I cancelled the order, and tried again last week. This time my luck had changed, and the disk was available for shipment, and it arrived yesterday.

Time to replace the drive. I used the tutorial on Macinstruct. So, I hooked up the new drive to my MacBook using a Conceptronic USB to SATA controller and used SuperDuper! to backup my files to the new drive. After an hour, that was done and I rebooted my MacBook to confirm that I was able to boot from the new disk. Worked like a charm

Last taks was to backup my Win7 partition. I used WinClone to back up this BootCamp partition to another disk.

After swapping the old internal disk with the new one, I was able to boot from the new disk without issues. I created a BootCamp partition of 250 GB and used WinClone to restore the image.

Now I’m happily running Win7 on my MacBook with a brand new 500GB 7200.4 drive

Sister for my Roomba

Hi,

After buying a Roomba robot vacuum cleaner a couple of years ago, and actually using it instead (sometimes) , I looked for information about the floor-cleaning sister, Scooba. I really hate cleaning the floor, but it must be done, so why not look for a roboric companion who can do the dirty work for me ?

Scooba is another creation from iRobot, which cleans the floor using 4 methods in 1 pass. From the information on their website, Scooba is supposed to clean 40 m2 on one tank of cleaning fluid. I would love to try one of these. Guess I will be measuring my living room this weekend to see if Scooba is usefull for me.

Looking for a new lens for my EOS 450D

I bought an EOS 450D a few weeks ago. With standard kit lens, which is OK for shooting family pictures in and around the house, but now I’m looking for a decent walk-around lens for the upcoming vacation.

Anyone got suggestions? I’m considering the Canon 28-200 USM lens.

Update: instead of one allround lens, I bought a 50 mm 1.8 Canon lens and a 55-250 4-5.6 IS lens, also Canon. Case closed

Popcorn Hour A110

Last week I ordered a PCH A110. After researching I was left with the choice between the A110 and the Dviceo M6500. The large community of the PCH and the high number of bugs/hardware faults of the M6500 made me choose for the PCH. Also the possibility to run the PCH as a GB-PVR ‘extender’ was a nice-to-have.

I used to use a Mac Mini as Vista MCE, but since it doesn’t support a DVI>HDMI connection to my flatscreen on boottime, it was not very userfriendly for my family. I had to disconnect te DVI cable, restart Vista, and reinsert the DVI cable after each restart. And that happened, naturally, only when I was not at home. So my wife was not very pleased with the Mac Mini as HTPC.

With the PCH, I can add a internal HD with all the DVD’s the family uses, so it should work without network, connectivity or other things that can go wrong. Just a standalone box and a television.

It will arrive today, so I’ll post my experiences in a couple of days.

Anybody got a fix for TomTom T9 on HTC S620 ?

I have been using a HTC S620 for a few months now. I installed TomTom 5.2 on it. Works OK, but here’s an issue. When I want to enter a city or address, I can only use the number keypad, because the S620 is technically a smartphone. I can live with the fucked up icons in TomTom, but is there anybody out there who has a fix for the T9 thingy ?

I really, really want to use the full keyboard in TomTom.

Hi,

a couple of days ago I wrote about the new Parrot firmware. After using it for a few days, I must say that the GPS function works amazingly well now.

Before, when I got into my car, the Parrot asked me to pair my TomTom with the GPS device. If I didn’t and wanted to use the GPS later on that trip, I was forced to park the car, shut off the engine and start again. Then when asked, I could pair the GPS.

Now, I have the Parrot configured NOT to automatically pair the GPS. When I’m driving and want to use TomTom, I simply start TomTom on my Qtek 8310 and the GPS will be detected in seconds. Now that’s how it’s supposed to work. I don’t know why Parrot’s developers couldn’t program this earlier, but I’m pleased that they have done it now.

I still have to test the sync of the contacts, but that’s not so important as the GPS issue. I’m a happy camper, for now
